New Winter Course: Ancient Rome
In this new online course, students will explore the history of Rome, from its foundation by the twins Romulus and Remus to the reign of Constantine I when Christianity became a legitimate religion of the empire.
Although an online course, there will be "hands-on" components like learning to work with Roman inscriptions and Roman coins as well as how archeological material is used to better understand this ancient civilization.
Students will learn how primary sources are used in creating explanatory models.
The course is taught by Professor Professor Takács, a renowned expert on Roman and Byzantine history. She has written and edited many books as well as articles on the subject. Presently, she is working with a team of undergraduate students on creating virtual reality portals of ancient cities Rome controlled in the region what is today Iraq and Iran.
