Get a first look at the technology that will impact your life! In this course, students use experimental digital media tools to transform news reporting, media storytelling, and other media processes.
Emerging digital media tools are applied to journalism and media to create and test new story formats. Students develop innovative ideas within the context of traditional values such as fairness, freedom of expression, impartiality, accuracy, multiple known sources, attribution, fact-checking, attention to detail, news judgment and ethics.
In this online course students will read a variety of online articles and utilize various interactive online multimedia materials. It will involve some research, online discussions, and the creation of a media prototype.
John V. Pavlik is professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and faculty associate at the Columbia Institute for Tele-Information (CITI). He is also co-developer of the Situated Documentary, a new form of storytelling using augmented reality. Pavlik has extensive experience as well as several publications in the field.
